This is a circular route in the hills and forests to the northwest of the famous 11th century monastery town of Sázava. It can be extended further with a 5 km loop near the river.

The spectacular high Baroque church on top of Maková hora is well worth a visit. This important pilgrimage site is just a 3 km round trip from Smolotely village. Various longer routes are available!

The nature trail around the Drbákov – Albertovy rocks, high above the Slapy reservoir, is one of the most scenic in the area – it is also quite challenging with some sections even equipped with chains.
From Benešov to Týnec nad Sázavou, via Konopiště castle: 14 km
There are several options for walks near the famous Konopiště castle. This scenic route is a nice way to combine two other important historical towns, with a visit to the chateau and park area.
A winter walk along the Berounka river near Tetín: 6 km to 12 km
The Berounka is especially scenic in between Beroun and Karlštejn, with dramatic limestone cliffs framing the meandering river. Try the little known footpath on the right bank to reach Srbsko station.
The Sýkornice nature trail, just outside Nová Paka in the Krkonoše foothills: 5 km
The new Sýkornice educational trail has some interesting information boards in the mostly forested nature park. It is a good option for a short walk when the weather in the mountains is poor.

Zaječov is a convenient starting point for circuits in the Brdy hills. This walk is short, but still gives a good taste of the classic forested landscape, and passes the Augustinian monastery, founded in 1262.

The village of Lány usually attracts tourists during the summer months to visit the park area behind the President’s chateau, but the nearby forests are much quieter and also attractive in the winter months!

Whenever visiting the Máchovo jezero area, take a trip to Jestřebí to see the rock castle, stop in one its restaurants and maybe scramble up to the nearby Pruský kámen for a fine view.

This nice flat circular walk between two attractive towns on the Labe, has an option to follow a riverside trail in both directions or take a cross country route through the farming villages for one leg.
An easy walk around the historic town of Úštěk and the Chmelař swimming lake: 4 km
The north Bohemian town of Úštěk has some interesting late Gothic architecture, a nice swimming lake and is the gateway for some very nice walking routes. It is well worth discovering!

This excellent tour is a super blend of the sandstone rock scenery of Kokořinsko with the volcanic hills of České středohoří and includes a visit to the spectacular Helfenburk ‘rock castle’.
Rock reliefs and rolling countryside on the edge of Kokořínsko: 3 km to 14 km
The countryside north of Štětí has some smaller sandstone rock formations worth visiting. The paths are quieter (but require more navigation skills) than in the nearby Kokořínsko nature area.
Walks from Třebívlice (from 10 km to 28 km): a collection of fine České středohoří summits
Třebívlice is a good starting point for fine circular hikes to various České středohoří volcanic peaks, including the second highest peak, Hradišťany. Most of the peaks were fortified in the distant past.
A walk to zámek Nový Hrad near Louny, from the ancient village of Opočno: 5 km
Take the easy path from the old village of Opočno (associated with the legend of Oldřich and Božena) to reach the picturesque Baroque chateau Nový Hrad, which is definitely worth visiting.

Hradčanské stěny is one of the most interesting yet least known sandstone rock areas in Kokořinsko, with intriguing holes, arches and caves to explore, plus a stunning view from the top of a steep knoll.

If travelling to or through Doksy, situated on the scenic Máchovo lake, take a moment to walk through town to visit the impressive Renaissance chateau and also the K.H. Mácha museum.

Dětenice’s medieval themed events may not be to everyone’s taste, but the late Baroque chateau is undoubtedly impressive and the grounds worth exploring especially on quiet days.

Mcely is known today as the location of one of the country’s premier chateau hotels. Even if not fortunate enough to be staying there, consider exploring the nature trail around this historic village.
A visit to Loučeň chateau and its park areas, including a collection of labyrinths – 2 km to 7 km
The Baroque chateau of Loučeň is a popular destination due to its unique park area with labyrinths and other attractions. Add on a walk in the hunting forest to the Bedřich Smetana museum.
Trips from Máchovo jezero to Jestřebí castle: 10 km to 15 km
The rock castle at Jestřebí, 5km northwest of Máchovo jezero, is well worth a visit, as are the local restaurants. Work up an appetite with a circular tour through the nearby sandstone gorges.
Panenský Týnec, Žerotín castle and Zichovec brewery – a 9 km trip
Just off the D7 highway, midway between Louny and Slaný, lies the remarkable gothic ruins of Panenský Týnec and Žerotín castle. Combine a walk to both with a visit to the new Zichovec brewery.
The educational trail around the village conservation area of Třebíz, near Slaný – 3 km
The ancient village of Třebíz, near Slaný and just off the D7 highway, is the birthplace of V.B. Třebízský and is worth visiting for some excellent examples of Central Bohemian folk architecture.
Along the Ohře river: from Žatec to Stekník through the historic hop fields – 10 km to 19 km
The brewery town of Žatec in northwest Bohemia is well worth a visit. Combine a trip to the scenic town with a walk along the Ohře river to the rococo chateau of Stekník in the middle of the hop fields.
Houska, Vráteň hill, Nosálov and Lobeč – rarely visited sites in Kokořínsko: 3 km to 14 km
Kokořínsko is most famous for its sandstone rock formations, but there are also interesting chateaux, viewpoints and old villages to visit in the region. This interesting walk captures several of these sites!
The Chlum Nature Park educational trail near Mladá Boleslav – 8 km
The educational trail around Chlum nature park is well done and focused on the prehistory and early history of this important archaeological site, with its prominent remains of Slavic hillforts.
Along the Jizera from Zvířetice to Michalovice via Radouč nature reserve – 12 km to 17 km
Follow a section of the scenic Jizera river north of Mladá Boleslav to visit the romantic medieval ruins of Zvířetice and Michalovice castles, stopping to see the squirrels in Radouč park on the way.
The Kokořínsko viewpoints of Velká and Malá Buková: 14 km
The Buková hills, in eastern Kokořínsko, offer some of the best views of the Máchovo lake, Bezděz castle and the surrounding forests. Unusually, these viewpoints are accessible all year round.
A walk along the Výrovka river valley from Radim chateau to Vrbčany – 6 km (extendable)
Visit the interesting Renaissance chateau at Radim and then take a tranquil walk along the Výrovka river valley to visit the very old church in Vrbčany. The trip may be extended with a unique educational trail.

Kalich castle was founded in 1421 by the legendary Hussite general, Jan Žižka, on a volcanic peak offering spectacular views. Take the circular path to the summit from the attractive village of Třebušín.
