A short walk around the Chateau Resort of Dětenice – 2 km

• Dětenice chateau, located 15 km southwest of Jičín, is so well known that it is difficult to avoid putting it in this guide. Drive through the village on a sunny day in the middle of the week and it is difficult not to be impressed by the grand and colorful late Baroque chateau, together with its associated medieval brewery buildings. These make up an integrated resort complex that is popular for events, festivals and overnight stays, especially for those who enjoy medieval themed activities.
• These events might not be to everyone’s taste but, even if not, try to catch the resort on a quiet day and wander around the pretty garden and park area to admire one of Bohemia’s most interesting chateaux. It is a place with an unusually long and rich history, involving some important characters from Bohemia’s turbulent past. The impressively restored interior of the chateau can also be visited either on a ‘classic’ or ‘themed’ tour. There are even luxury bedrooms available to rent in the chateau.
• The walk around the whole complex is less than 2 km long, all on good flat paths, which can be managed with a stroller. For refreshments, the brewery is open for tours and tastings and the next door medieval tavern serves food throughout the day (there is a ‘themed’ evening program).

Directions

• Dětenice can be reached by bus from Jičín and Mladá Boleslav. There is extensive parking in the resort itself and a few parking spots in the center of the village.
• There are no walking trails per se – just walk around the chateau area, including the small park behind the main building
• In the next door complex is the brewery, with a small museum, as well as the medieval tavern and even a recreated jousting area to explore
