Walks near the town of Dolní Bousov, on the edge of Český ráj: 4 km to 19 km

  • Dolní Bousov is a small town located on the edge of the Český ráj nature zone, midway between Mladá Boleslav and Jičín. The enterprising town has created three separate marked nature trails (from 4 km to 10 km in length) to highlight the history and nature found in the local countryside. In the past, the town had over 30 fishponds, not all of which have survived, but two of the trails pass around some of the remaining ponds. There are information panels along each of the trails (only in Czech).
  • Apart from the ponds, the countryside is mostly rolling hills, small forests and wide-open meadows, filled with farm crops. The terrain and all the local footpaths are easy, and so this is a good spot for a winter walk or for escaping the summer crowds in the busier Český ráj, just to the north. The town square in Dolní Bousov has a couple of restaurants-cafés and one of the trails passes a well-done adventure golf course – a nice diversion if visiting with family.
  • There are a couple of privately owned chateau in the area (one of which is the base for a winery) and so if wanting a longer walk than offered on the nature trails, consider the 19 km loop shown in the map below, which circles past the two chateau, passing through a couple of attractive forest areas and finishes along a section of the longest nature trail. The route is all on easy footpaths or quiet asphalt tracks. There is around 200m of height to ascend-descend on the route.

Directions

  • Dolní Bousov is on a number of bus routes and also has a train connevtion with Mladá Boleslav. There are parking areas in the center of town
  • From the main town square, join the BLUE trail, heading in the direction of Vlčí Pole along the country road
  • After 3 km reach the chateau in Vlčí Pole (currently a Seniors home) and from there countinue on the BLUE trail a further 4.5 km to reach Domousnice chateau (the winery)
  • Continue on the BLUE trail past the chateau for a further 500m to reach the center of the village
  • In Domousnice village, turn right onto the GREEN trail heading in the direction of Petkovy, which is reached after 3.6 km
  • Continue on the GREEN trail for a further 3.8 km to reach Bechov train station
  • At the station turn right, before crossing the train line to follow the cycle path along the village road (this is also part of the nature trail)
  • The trail leads back to Dolní Bousov in 4 km
