The educational trail around the village conservation area of Třebíz, near Slaný – 3 km

  • On 27 February 1849, the writer and priest, Václav Beneš Třebízský, was born in a modest cottage on the main square of the village of Třebíz. Třebízský died of Tuberculosis at the age of 35, but despite his short life he managed to publish a number of important historical novels set in the Czech lands. The cottage stands today in the center of of protected village conservation area, which has a number of well preserved examples of folk architecture dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
  • Třebíz is definitely worth a visit, especially if travelling on the D7 highway northwest of Prague and wanting a short break for an attractive walk on the edge of the Džbán nature reserve. There is a short educational trail of around 2 km between the two villages of Kvílice and Třebíz, both of which are connected by bus to Prague.
  • The main highlight of the trail is the central square in Třebíz, which is of medieval origins, and the nearby sandstone rock formations, which were carved to create dwelling houses. It is believed there was a medieval fortress on the top of the rocks. At one end of square is the hotel Pod Sluncem, which has a good restaurant for refreshments after a stroll around the village or along the educational trail.
  • The path is not difficult with just 70m of height to climb on the route. The first part of the trail from Kvílice is on a wide farm track across the fields, and then follows asphalt side roads into Třebíz. If walking with a stroller, consider starting the walk in Třebíz rather than Kvílice and just tour the village area.
