Walks around the meadows of Wolf mountain (704m) starting in Černošín: 9 km to 18 km

  • The meadows around Vlčí hora (Wolf mountain) – located in western Bohemia around halfway between Plzeň and the German border – are particular beautiful in early summer. The surprisingly prominent peak not only has some lovely meadows and forest glades to explore, but also has its own romantic ruin in the form of Volfštejn castle, which dates from the early 13th century. Volfštejn has one of the best preserved ‘bergfrit’ towers in the country.
  • There are a couple of simple circuits possible around the mountain, with a start in the nearest town, Černošín. These are around 9 km to 10 km in length. However, the best trip is to extend a tour around the mountain by following the footpaths beside the Kosí stream and then the Mže river to circle around the mountain. This creates a nicely varied trip 18 km long with 450m of height to ascend-descend.
  • None of the paths are particular steep, but if taking the extended walk beside the stream there can be quite a number of fallen trees navigate around, which can create a moderately challenging route. There are no refreshment points directly on the route, so take enough supplies forb the journey.
