*Třemšín and the Bílá skála viewpoints, starting at Rožmitál pod Třemšínem: 24 km*

  • Třemšín is probably the most interesting of all the 800m peaks in the Brdy range – the so called ‘brdské osmistovky‘. Firstly, it actually offers some views over the wider Brdy range, from its rocky summit (this is rare for a Brdy 800m peak as most summits are tree-covered). Secondly, the fragments of an intriguing medieval fortress ringing the summit area make the climb even more worthwhile!
  • The hilltop appears to have been first fortified in the 10th century. The subsequent 13th century Gothic castle was burnt down by the Hussites in 1424. It was left to crumble over the following 800 years. As a result, both the castle and Třemšín hill itself have an interesting history and legends attached to them.
  • There are several potential access points for the ascent of Třemšín. There are quite close access points near Hutě pod Třemšínem, but for a nice long walk in the scenic nature area below Třemšín, a start in the attractive town of Rožmitál pod Třemšínem is an excellent option. Rožmitál town is itself worth exploring, to discover the interesting history of some of characters associated with the place, as well the scenic path around its large pond.
  • The suggested route approaches Třemšín using the most direct trail, but then takes a secondary path to reach the summit via the rocky peak of Křemel (790 m), which also has some good views. After circling around the Třemšín summit area, the suggested route heads eastwards to visit the Bílá skála viewpoint, which offers one of the nicer views in the area.
  • The total trip, which includes a short circuit around Rožmitál, is 24 km long, with 440m of height to ascend-descend. None of the paths (a mix of asphalt mountain road and forest footpaths) are difficult, but the short climbs up to the summits of Křemel and Třemšín are quite rocky and get slippery in wet weather.
  • The only refreshment option directly on any of the route is a private house (300m from the bus stop in Hutě pod Třemšínem along the main trail – map point 4) which serves coffee through a window. There is a small outdoor seating area. When the sign is out, just ring the bell and order some excellent coffee!
  • Back in Rožmitál pod Třemšínem there are several good options in the town, including the New Romance restaurant which has a nice terrace area overlooking the lake (map point 17). In the town center, try café Kačenčiny Dobroty (map point 2) just off the main square. There is also a popular ice cream window serving homemade Točená zmrzlina (map point 16) at the north end of the square.
