Modrava is a good base in winter not just for cross-country skiing, but also for winter walks. The trails along the Roklanský and Modravský streams are some of the nicest in the region.

This is a short but pretty circular walk starting in the Šumava resort village of Modrava, ascending beside the cascading Filipohuťský stream and returning via a high meadow and forest trail.
A short walk along the Vchynicko-Tetovský canal, starting at Hradlový bridge: 4 km (extendable)
The remarkable 14 km Vchynicko-Tetovo canal was built at the end of the 18th century by Prince Schwarzenberg to help transport timber to Prague. An interesting nature trail runs its entire length.
