The Benešov upland area (centered on the town of Sedlčany) has attractive hilly farming countryside, perfect for a quiet walk. Combine with a visit to the excellent folk museum at Vysoký Chlumec.

This is not a walk for the faint-hearted. It traverses terrain that saw some of the darkest moments in recent Czech history. But it is definitely worth doing – just do not expect beautiful scenery!

Jakub Krčín, known for building fishponds in Třebonsko, also developed the Sedlčany region. The area offers beautiful landscape, trails of various lengths, and historical sites worth exploring.

A visit to the pilgrimage site on Maková hora, near Příbram: 3 km to 14 km
The spectacular high Baroque church on top of Maková hora is well worth a visit. This important pilgrimage site is just a 3 km round trip from Smolotely village. Various longer routes are available!
Veselý vrch viewing tower and the Zlaté Psí hory mining nature trail: 9 km
Follow the Zlaté Psí hory mining trail, starting at the Baroque granary (museum) in Prostřední Lhota and detour briefly to climb Veselý vrch for some great views!
The Kozí hory and Libčice mining trail (with option to visit the Karel Čapek memorial) – 18 km to 26 km
The historic gold mining town of Nový Knín has two nature trails in attractive hilly countryside. This is the longer of the two trails and can be combined with a visit to the K. Čapek memorial and nature trail.
*The Drbákov – Albertovy skály nature trail above the Vltava valley: 7 km to 12 km*
The nature trail around the Drbákov – Albertovy rocks, high above the Slapy reservoir, is one of the most scenic in the area – it is also quite challenging with some sections even equipped with chains.
A 2 km walk around the Svatá Hora pilgrimage site above Příbram
Svatá Hora (‘Holy Mountain’) is the most famous pilgrimage site associated with the Virgin Mary in Bohemia. A short walk around the majestic Baroque complex and park area is warmly recommended.
Short walks along the Karel Čapek nature trail near Dobříš: 2 km to 8 km
The famous Czech writer Karel Čapek spent the last 3 years of his life in a country house near Dobříš. The house is now a museum and has an interesting nature trail in the nearby forest areas.
