Walks in the Prague parks (V) – Cibulka in the western Prague district of Košíře – 3 km
- In the early 19th century the large homestead of Cibulka, in the western Prague district of Košíře, was transformed by the exiled Bishop of Passau, Leopold Thun Hohenstein, into a majestic English park surrounding an Empire style mansion. For many centuries previously the slopes had been filled with vineyards, probably first planted in the 14th century in the time of Emperor Charles IV.
- Today, Cibulka is a mostly forested area but gradually the monuments and buildings that graced the stylish park two hundred years ago are being restored. The most distinctive building is the so called Chinese pavilion, constructed in 1822. Several statues of Greek gods and other romantic era ruins, including a lookout tower, are scattered throughout the hilly park area. The homestead mansion is now undergoing reconstruction (due to be completed in 2026).
- The park is easily accessible by public transport (via the trams that run along Plzeňská). There is also a large Park&Ride car park close to the entrance area. There are no marked trails in the park but orientation is not difficult with the Chinese pavilion and lookout tower being obvious landmarks and the railway line on the the ridge marking the edge of the park. A loop around the main park area, visiting each of the romantic monuments is approximately 3 km long with 80m of height gained/lost.
- There is an asphalt path around the main areas, so it is possible to walk with a stroller in the park, although there are a couple of step and forest path sections on the route shown in the map below (which are avoidable). There are currently no refreshment areas in the park, although there is a newly opened information centre.
