A short stop in Ořech, just off the Prague ring road: 2 km

  • Anyone who has sat on the Prague ring road in one of its famous traffic jams will probably have noticed the low hill overlooking the village of Ořech and wondered if it is natural. The answer is no, it was created as part of a water management system.
  • However, the hill has been nicely developed into a small park-like area and is worth a quick visit, especially if needing to cool off after sitting in a classic D0 jam. The hill is topped with an unusual architect-designed swing.
  • If stopping for a walk around the hill, take a moment to visit the pretty area near the church, which dates from the 14th century. The Baroque rectory has a memorial to the 19th century poet and author, Jindřich Šimon Baar, who worked as a priest in Ořech for many years.
  • It is an easy walk of around 2 km (on grassy footpaths) to circumnavigate the hill and then visit the church area. If in need of refreshment, consider a stop in the medieval-styled Restaurant Rapír, which serves good food in an interesting atmosphere.
