Easy walks along a section of the Ohře cycle path, near Cheb: 8 km – 15 km
- The Ohře cycle path follows the Czech Republic’s 4th longest river for over 300 km as it flows from the slopes of the Schneeberg mountain in Bavaria through the Fichtelgebirge mountains, crossing west Bohemia to join the Labe at Litoměřice. It is, of course, a route perfectly suited to bikers, but there are also segments which are ideal for easy flat walks, using the railway that runs beside the river to create one-way routes of various lengths.
- In the second half of the trail, walkers actually have an advantage, as use of footpaths can avoid busier roads. However, in this suggested route starting from or near the attractive town of Cheb, the route is mostly on dedicated cycle paths but walkers will not feel alone – the path is widely used by locals enjoying a stroll along the pretty Ohře river.
- For a short walk, the section of the trail between the Tršnice and Nebanice train stations is the prettiest, as the czcle route follows the twists of the river quite closely. The route can be done in either direction by catching trains from Cheb or Karlovy Vary. For refreshments there are pubs close to both stations (map points 5 and 7).
- For a longer route, walk the 15 km section between Nebanice and Cheb, as shown in the map below. Cheb is worth exploring either on this or a separate trip. Here is a short description of a walk around this fascinating town, which also includes refreshment suggestions. Both the short and longer walks are essentially and perfect for strollers.
