*A circuit from Nebřenice through Velké Popovice, including the Oaks Prague development: 12 km*

  • The Benešovská pahorkatina (Benešov Upland area) is an easily accessed but attractive range of hills located just to the south east of Prague. The hills are not high – mostly between 500m and 600m in altitude – but the landscape has the feel of higher Czech mountain areas. There are some super trails in these hills.
  • An interesting and varied route, outlined in the map below, traverses both the brewery town of Velké Popovice (famous for its Kozel beers) and the village of Nebřenice, where an up-market residential development – Oaks Prague – centered around a world class golf course, has slowly been evolving since 2016.
  • The Oaks development includes a beautifully reconstructed Neo-classicist 19th century chateau – which now houses the golf club’s restaurant (a sister restaurant of Prague’s La Finestra). Also on site is the stylish La Bottega Oaks Deli Bistro, part of the same chain as La Finestra (and also a Hejlík recommendation).
  • It is possible (at least in summer 2026) to park in the complex for free and walk through the development area and golf course to reach the marked hiking trails – the closest of which is part of the Cyril & Methodius long distance trail.
  • Walkers are spoilt for choice in terms of refreshment options. In addition to the restaurants in the Oaks development, there are various possibilities in Velké Popovice, including the excellent Kozlovna brewery pub. On the corner opposite the brewery, a nice ice cream stand operates in the summer months (map point 5).
  • The suggested route is just over 12 km long and is on easy paths with less than 200m of height to ascend/descend. The last section is, however, along a public road. This can be partly avoided by returning back along the hiking path and crossing the golf course.

Directions

  • There are good bus connections from the Opatov Prague metro stop to just outside the Oaks golf development (infrequently at weekends though). If driving, there are parking areas in the development
  • Head towards the chateau and continue on the gravel path though the development-golf area to reach the hiking trails at the edge of the resort
  • Turn left onto the BLUe trail and after 500m at the Ovčárský rybník, turn left onto the YELLOW trail heading towards Velké Popovice, which is reached after 4.5 km
  • Continue past the brewery for a further 1 km on the YELLOW trail and then turn right to follow the 028 cycle path, which leads directlz back to the Oaks development after 4.5 km
