*Mumlava – an easy walk to Bohemia’s most beautiful series of waterfalls: 3 km to 12 km*

  • Mumlava waterfall is one of the most accessible and beautiful waterfalls in the country. As a result the main waterfall, which drops nearly 10m into a deep pool, is a hugely popular destination. It is just a 1.3 km walk from Harrachov bus station, up a gently inclining asphalt road.
  • Yet despite its popularity, it is possible to enjoy this wonderful attraction without the crowds, even at the height of tourist season. The reason is that the Mumlava river has numerous smaller waterfalls as it cascades down the granite rocks from the mountain plateau. The asphalt road runs for nearly six kilometers directly beside the cascading river and by walking further up the road it is always possible to find a quiet pool and sunny rock to sit and enjoy one of the smaller waterfalls.
  • The walk to the end of the road is highly recommended, but walkers can turn back at any stage. At the and of the road the track becomes a mountain footpath leading up the plateau (which is the source of both the Mumlava and, more famously, the Labe river). This path begins probably the finest long walk in the Krkonoše mountains – see the following page for details.
  • The asphalt path beside the Mumlava can be managed easily with a stroller. An educational trail with information panels starts just below the main falls. For refreshments there is a snack bar at the end of the road but directly on the road above the main falls, try the Mumlava bouda, an atmospheric restaurant created from a 19th century hunting lodge.
  • Harrachov is a popular ski (and walking) resort in the in the Krkonoše mountains, which has expanded rapidly in recent years. There are direct bus connections to Harrachov from Prague and extensive paid parking areas. The most convenient car park for the falls is the Central car park, just 200m past the bus station at the eastern end of town.
