A short walk around Milotice chateau gardens and park – 2 km

• If travelling in southeast Moravia during the summer/autumn, it is worthwhile diverting to visit the fine Baroque chateau of Milotice and walk around the relatively small but well presented garden and park area. The chateau was reconstructed on the shell of a 14th century moated fortress, and owes its current form to major work undertaken by the Serényi family in the 17th century. This aristocratic family, which originated in Hungary, were important landowners in southern Moravia for several centuries and are credited with the rise to fame of the Luhačovice spa town.
• The park and garden area has a partly French Baroque and partly English park style and a complete circuit on easy paths takes no more than 2 km, including a visit to the interesting orangerie. The chateau offers guided tours (with the option of wearing period costume…).There is a café in the chateau for refreshments.

Directions

• The chateau is easiest visited by car and there is a large paid parking area directly outside the chateau
• The garden and park area can be accessed by walking through the main courtyard and initial halls. The circuit around the French garden is obvious, with access to the larger English park through the entrances on the north side of of the garden
