*An ascent of Lysá Hora (1323m) starting from Malenovice near Frýdlant: 16 km*
- Lysá Hora (1323m) is the highest peak in the Beskydy range of mountains. As a consequence, the mountain attracts a large number of visitors who scale its forested flanks to reach the impressive viewpoint (and restaurants) at the summit, using a variety of different trails on all sides of the mountain.
- There are a number of potential starting points for the ascent, although the climb from Ostravice is probably the most popular, following trails mostly on the western side of the mountain.
- An attractive alternative to climbing from Ostravice is to start and finish in Malenovice, a village just above the larger town of Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. This enables use of different ascent and descent trails on the northern side of the mountain, including one that passes above the scenic Satinský waterfalls. See the following page for a short walk to these popular waterfalls.
- The suggested route from Malenice starts at the large paid parking area on the road up from Frýdlant. This road also has various bus stops on a route from Frýdlant train station. Next to the car park is the well-regarded restaurant, Rajská bouda, which is worth a stop.
- The ascent route passes above the Satinský falls (for an optional detour) and then ascends the northwest slopes of Lysá, passing the unusual Ondrášovy holes (frost weathered pseudo caves). There are two welcoming huts on the summit, of which the Bezručova chata is probably the nicest option.
- The descent route heads down the northern slopes through attractive mountain beech forests to return back to Malenovice. It is possible to take a short cut down a side road to reach the car park, reducing the walk length to 14 km or complete the full (16 km) loop through Malenovice, passing the prominent early Baroque Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Close to the church is the excellent Pod Borovou restaurant.
- The full walk involves 880m of height to ascend-descend. None of the paths are particularly steep (except the optional detour to the Satinský falls), but this a proper mountain route and the weather on Lysá hora is renowned for being wet and windy!
