*Walks from the village of Libá towards the Cz-De border and along the Ohře: up to 12 km*

  • The village of Libá, in the far west of Bohemia, is strategically positioned for walkers directly on the ‘Stezka Českem‘ (the 2000 km trail that circles the entire country). There are a number of other (shorter!) trails in the attractive border countryside around Libá, which make the village a good option as a base for walks. One option as a base in Libá is to stay at the Pension Liebenstein, which is also a good spot for refreshments, with its large terrace area.
  • Both Cheb and Františkovy Lázně can be reached easily from Libá on good trails. The interesting reconstructed castle of Seeberg is also just 5 km away and is worth a trip, when open. Libá also has its own Gothic castle, which was originally constructed in the 14th century and then reconstructed in the Baroque period. It is usually open to visitors from March to November.
  • One of the most interesting trails in the area leads from Libá towards (and possibly across) the Czech-German border, which is here delineated by a stretch of the Ohře river (named the Eger in Germany). The historic Bavarian town of Hohenberg lies just across the border, and is also equipped with an impressive 13th century castle (as of summer 2026 it is closed for an extensive reconstruction). Hohenberg is a good option as a stopping point on a circular walk and has a couple of good restaurants for refreshments near the castle (map points 7 and 8).
  • The full 12 km route follows the Ohře-Eger for a short section, crosses the border at the old Dubina settlement, visits Hohenberg and then circles back to Libá. One highlight on the route is the Pomezná fortress, close to the point where the Ohře flows into the Skalka reservoir (map point 3). This small early 14th century castle is the only remnant of a former border village. It is currently being brilliantly reconstructed and will (hopefully) be publicly accessible in the near future.
  • The route shown in the map below involves less than 200m of height to ascend-descend and is mostly on good forest trails or gravel cycle paths.
