The ‘Krok za krokem’ education trail around the town of Česká Třebová: 5 km
- Česká Třebová is probably best known today as an important railway junction for trains heading east-west across the country. Most visitors therefore see nothing of the town apart from the inside of the railway station for a fleeting couple of minutes. For those in this category, it is actually worth getting off the train and having a look around this attractive and historic east Bohemian town!
- Amongst other attractions, Česká Třebová boasts the oldest preserved architectural building in east Bohemia: the early 13th century Romanesque rotunda of St Catherine (featured in the header photo) which overlook the town’s medieval cemetery. This is accessed through a well preserved 16th century wooden bell tower. The rotunda is usually only open in July and August.
- The town has created a well done 5 km education trail around town, ‘Krok za krokem’ (literally ‘step by step’), with dual language Cz/En information boards. Highlights, apart from the rotunda area, include the pretty main square, with its Renaissance architecture and the attractive small park, Javorka. The route can be managed with a stroller.
- For refreshments, there is is an excellent Vietnamese place on the main square, Umami (map point 3) now included in the Hejlík guide. Alternatively, for great coffee and cakes, try the stylish Caffe Lucerna at map point 6.

Directions
- From the train station, follow the RED trail into the main square and continue from there on the RED to the rotunda
- From the rotunda, the education trail does not usually follow marked hiking paths, although there are occasional green/white stripe nature trail markers and a trail map on each board
