Along the Klabava river to the new Brdy visitor centre in the Tři Trubky hunting lodge: 6 km

  • The Klabava river has its source in the Brdy highlands and flows for 50 km to meet the Berounka just to the northeast of Plzen. It is the prettiest mountain river in the Brdy region and is best enjoyed by walking the forest trail from the Hájkův most car park to the Tři Trubky 19th century hunting lodge, which is now a beautifully reconstructed Visitor Centre. The Brdy House of Nature was opened in 2023 and is nicely done – even if most of the information boards are only in Czech.
  • The BLUE hiking trail from the car park up to the visitor center is just under 3 km long, with only 40m of altitude gain, but is a forest footpath with a few step sections, so not really suitable for strollers. The stroller-friendly version is to take the asphalt mountain road, which runs essentially parallel to the walking path (and can be used for a speedy return journey).
  • The visitor center is even open in winter (check the opening times though). For refreshments, the center has some drinks, but for food consider a visit to the excellent restaurant Na Poště, just on the outskirts of Strašice village, 2 km down the road.
  • There are several options to extend the walk after reaching the visitor center. One option is to take a circular route following more of the course of the Klabava river. One long variant is described here. An alternative is to visit the rocky viewpoint, Třítrubecká vyhlídka, which is less than 1 km from the visitor center along the YELLOW trail (it is shown below as map point 3).
