A short walk around the Jeseníky spa village of Karlova Studánka – 2 km
- Karlova Studánka is a unique spa village located in the heart of the Jeseníky mountains at an altitude of 800m. It boasts the freshest air in Central Europe and a recommendation from the New York Times as one of the world’s most interesting tourist destinations.
- The village certainly has a special appeal, with most of its half-timbered buildings dating from the 19th century – the spa was founded at the end of the 18th century, although its healing waters were known more than a century earlier, when the village was acquired by the Order of the German Knights after the Battle of White Mountain in 1620.
- Several shorter and longer walks can be started from the village, including the famous waterfall route along the Bilá Opava stream as well as a long ascent route to Praděd (1491m), the region’s highest peak. Shorter walks include the 4 km hike up the rocky viewpoint of Rolandův kámen. However, if wanting just an easy short stroll, the 2 km walk around the village itself is definitely worthwhile (and can of course be combined with the longer walks). The paths around the village are stroller-friendly.
- There are a number of excellent refreshment spots in the village, including good coffee and cakes in the Lázeňská cukrárna or Cukrárna Dagmar. For full restaurant service, try the Restaurace Letní Lázně – in the building featured in the header photo. All three spots are included in the detailed map. If travelling by car, use the lower parker area, as it is closer to the village center.
Note: click ‘Show on Mapy.com’ to go to a full screen version of the route directly on the mapy.com site. This can be used for on line navigation, saved or exported as a GPX file.
Directions
- From the lower parking area (Karlova Studánka, dolní parkoviště), which also has a bus stop, head into the center of the village along the main street
- A clockwise itinerary taking paths on both sides of the stream is shown on the map, but there is no particularly recommended route. All the recommended refreshment spots are located in the center of the village, close to each other
