A short visit to the Červeňák viewing tower and snack bar, near Louny: 2 km

  • There are several volcanic peaks close to the attractive town of Louny which are worth hiking up for their stupendous views. Probably the most rewarding peaks near the town are Raná and Oblík. This highlighted walk is definitely worth the effort.
  • However, for those without the time to scale the higher peaks in the area, consider a trip to visit the tourist hut built on top of Červený vrch. The historical hut – which was opened in 1911 – has a viewing tower and snack bar. It is normally open at weekends and public holidays from April to October. The view from the top is excellent and the snacks – often featuring local sausages – are pretty good too!
  • It is possible to reach the hill by walking from Louny (a 4 km walk along a side road and cycle path), but most visitors will probably drive and use the small parking area 250m below the summit. From there iit is a short stroll to the hut, but for a slightly longer walk, there is a red marked nature trail which circles the hill – a possible route is shown in the map below.
  • If driving in the area, take the time to visit the historical center of Louny. In addition to the attractive old town, there are a number of good refreshment options. For good coffee and excellent ice cream try Cukrána Fragolose on the main square. For more substantial fare, try the restaurant Merlot (a Hejlík recommendation), near the beautiful 15th century Žatec gate, or for a more traditional pub, try the Šalanda, opposite St Peter’s Church.
