The Velký Lomnický nature trail, starting in Lomnice nad Lužnicí: 5 km

  • This nature trail is an easy and pleasant short walk, especially for those interested in the wetland habitats associated with the south Bohemian fishpond landscape. The information boards (in Czech only) discuss the flora, fauna and natural environment of one of the smaller Třeboňsko region fishponds. There are two bird watching shelters on the route.
  • The walk starts in Lomnice nad Lužnicí (reachable by bus from České Budějovice and Třeboň). If driving, there is a free car park next to the church, right at the start of the nature trail (map point 2).
  • The route is essentially flat, but can be quite muddy and is not really suitable for strollers. From the car park it is a 4.7 km round trip. From the bus stop in the town center it is 1 km longer.
  • There are no refreshment options directly on the route, but there is a nice ice cream shop on the main square in Lomnice (map point 5), which is worth visiting.

Note: click ‘Show on Mapy.com’  to go to a full screen version of the route directly on the mapy.com site. This can be used for on line navigation, saved or exported as a GPX file.

Directions

  • Starting in the main square in Lomnice, follow Kostelní street to reach the church (where the car park and nature trail begins)
  • From the car park, follow the nature trail signs (green-white diagonal stripes) to reach the pond. The trail is best followed anticlockwise around the pond (this is the order of the info boards)
  • Note that the trail markers are not always visible – at least they were not when the trail was last walked in March 2024 – so it is best to follow also using the mapy.cz application
