Stráž peak (782m) from Jablonec nad Jizerou: 6 km to 17 km

• Stráž peak (782m) is a popular viewpoint located between the Krkonoše ski resorts of Jablonec nad Jizerou and Rokytnice nad Jizerou. Modern viewing platforms have been constructed on its rocky summit offering wide ranging views over the higher peaks of the Krkonoše and ski slopes of Rokytnice.
• The peak can be reached by footpath from either of the two ski resorts, Rokytnice being the closer, but Jablonec offering more options for a circular trip. With a gentle approach slope and relatively easy access from the two resorts, the peak can usually be ascended throughout the year and there is normally a good path to the summit even in snowy conditions.
• The suggested route shown in the map starts in Jablonec nad Jizerou and takes the hiking trail through the forest above the town. In very snowy conditions consider taking the cycle trail, which runs broadly parallel to the hiking path following a mountain road. There are various return options after ascending Stráž, including descending to Rokytnice and catching the bus back to Jablonec (for a 6 km trip). For a medium length circular trip, returning to Jablonec using the side roads rather than footpaths is a good option in winter time (this is the route shown in the map below (and totals 11 km with 340m of height to ascend-descend).
• For a longer circular route – which is not advisable in winter time – it is possible after descending from Stráž to take the hiking trail through Františkov and Horní Dušnice and return back to Jablonec on a 17 km circular route. This route involves over 600m of height to ascend-descend. Refreshments are available in the center of either Jablonec or Rokytnice but not on the trail itself.

Directions

• Starting in Jablonec nad Jizerou (which has direct bus connections to Prague) take the RED hiking trail climbing above the town to reach the trail junction of Na Stráži in 2.6 km
• At Na Stráži follow the diversions markers (red triangles) to reach the summit in 700m. There are four modern viewing platforms to visit in the area of the summit
• After exploring the summit area return to the Na Stráži junction. here, turn left onto the RED trail in the direction of Pod Stráží
• Remain on the RED trail for 1 km until reaching the junction of Sachrův hřeben. Here, leave the marked hiking trails, turning right onto the road which leads down the hill towards the industrial building
• After 600m reach a road junction and here turn right, heading southwest back towards Jablonec
• Continue along the road, past the old mill in Buřany village to reach the junction of Buřany – bus
• At the junction join the BLUE hiking trail and continue down the road
• After 800m the BLUE trail leaves the public road. Stay on the BLUE trail as it descends towards Jablonec, passing the railway station, to reach the town center in 2.1 km
