Walks around the Sadská swimming lake beside the river Labe: 4 km to 10 km
- Sadská lake is a popular swimming spot a few kilometers west of Nymburk. Its grassy shores are busy in summer but empty the rest of the year. The lake was created by sand mining in 1972. Due to its sandy bottom, Sadská lake is a relatively clean and warm place to take a dip!
- Whether planning to swim or not, the lake is worth visiting for a pleasant walk around its perimeter. There is even a short section directly beside the Labe river. On the west side of the lake is an interesting wetland area.
- Sadská lake is located at the edge of the Kersko – Bory nature park, which protects the natural pine and birch forest growing in the gravel/sand Labe floodplain area. Our partner charity, Sázíme stromy, is planning to plant (in autumn 2023) an avenue of oak trees along a footpath just off the marked tourist trail. The oak avenue will protect the natural pine forest (map point 6). This is one of the projects supported by donations on this site.
- There is a large parking area (paid during the summer season, free at other times) close to the lake. The full walk around the lake from there is around 4 km, on flat paths, which can be muddy at times. If travelling by public transport, there are bus and train connections to nearby Sadská town.
- For refreshments, there may be stalls open by the lake during the summer season, but there is a small pub 200m down the road towards the town from the parking area. In Sadská town, try Tali’s Café, which has some really excellent cakes (map point 8).
