A walk along the Rejvíz peat bog nature trail in the Jeseníky hills – 4 km

  • Rejvíz is the highest village in Czech Silesia at an altitude of 750m and is mostly known for its famous peat bog, which is apparently the second most visited site in the Jeseníky mountains (Praděd peak is, unsurprisingly, the first). There is a short educational trail leading to the peat bog, which has the Great Moss Pond at its center. The trail outlines how the peat bog formed, some 7000 years ago, and provides information about the rich flora and fauna that have made their homes in the wetland. A small entrance fee is required to enter the main area, which is protected with wooden walkways.
  • The educational trail loop and extension to the pond is 4.4 km long with only 60m of height difference. The trail is on easy path, but the sections in the forest are quite rough so not advisable with a stroller. There are several refreshment options in the village, including the at the well regarded historic Pension Rejvíz (located next to the start of the trail).

Directions

  • Start at the car park or bus stop next to the Pension Rejvíz and initially follow the YELLOW hiking trail for 800m to reach the Pod Rejvízem trail junction. Here, turn right off the YELLOW trail to follow the education trail (green-white diagonal markings) towards Velké mechové jezírko
  • The pond is reached after a further 1.8 km, partly on the wooden walkway through the bog. The ticket office is part way along the walkway
  • Return back from the pond on the same route until reaching the Vstup do rezervace trail sign. Here, take the marked short cut on the gently rising trail back to Rejvíz, which is reached in 1.1 km
