Walks along the tranquil valley of Modřanská rokle: 6 km to 13 km

  • Modřanská rokle is an attractive forested valley that runs eastwards for 4 km from Modřany, on the outskirts of Prague, towards the village of Písnice. Due to the good public transport options from Prague centre to Modřany (trains, trams and buses) and the flat path that runs most of its length, Modřanská rokle is a popular option for Prague residents to enjoy a walk along the tranquil valley created by picturesque Libušský and Písnický streams. There is an educational trail on the route with information boards mostly discussing the wildlife in the valley.
  • The Libušský section of the valley (3 km) has an asphalt path, but the Písnický section is more rugged (a mud and rock track with narrow, steeper sections and significant tree roots) so walkers with strollers are advised just to do a ‘there and back’ trip along the main valley path.
  • Other walkers can consider completing a circular tour, returning to Modřany through the farming village of Cholupice, passing the private airfield of Točna (which dates from the 1940’s and is today used by vintage aircraft) and either travelling back to Prague centre from the Komořany train station, or walking a section of the (usually quite busy) Vltava cycle path back to Modřany.
  • The full circuit described below is 13.4 km long with 150m of height gained/lost on the route, mostly on asphalt paths (except for the Písnický section of the valley mentioned above). There are several refreshment options along the route, including the popular restaurant U Čámrse in Cholupice (map point 5) and the stylish Croatian fish restaurant Deco, in Modřany (map point 8).
