Exploring the Křivoklátsko forests from Krušovice: an 11 km tour

  • The top part of the Křivoklátsko nature zone (north east of Rakovník) offers some of of the most attractive forested hill terrain in the country. The mixed woodlands offer vibrant colours throughout the year, but in autumn the colours are spectacular. This is also a great location for mushroom hunting.
  • A convenient entry point to the woodland area is the village of Krušovice (home of the historic royal brewery founded in the 16th century , which offer tours)
  • There are many marked hiking and cycle trails in the woods and various circular routes can be created, generally from 10km to 20km in length. The following route traverses the ridge leading to the (probably late Bronze Age) hillfort of Louštín (where the ramparts and ditch are still very visible), and then circles through the diverse mixed forests on a variety of trails.
  • Most of the trails in this part of the forest are easy and the marked cycle paths are easily navigable with a buggy/pram. The route described below involves a couple sections that are on somewhat rougher terrain.
  • On the 11km route descirbed below, a total of 230m is gained/lost.
  • There are no refreshment options on the route, but various restaurants/pubs are available in Krušovice. Try the pleasant bakery next to the school, which serves good cakes.

Directions

  • Start and finish the walk in the village of Krušovice (home of the historic royal brewery founded in the 16th century , which offer tours). There are various parking options at or close to the brewery
  • Start on the RED hiking trail, heading in the direction of Louštín
  • The trail leaves the village and then heads up hill entering the forest area and reaching the signpost of Louštín 2km from the brewery
  • At the signpost, take the GREEN trail in the direction of Louštín, reach the top of the hill and the viewpoints after 300m (take the small diversion to the edge of the ridge for the views)
  • From the viewpoins return back to the GREEN trail and continue along the ridge for 2.3km to reach the signpost of Pod Malým Louštínem
  • At the signpost, take the first path sharply to the right. This is an asphalt road, marked as a cycle track.
  • This road leads after 2.2km to the signpost of Kluk
  • At Kluk turn right onto the RED trail in the direction of Krušovice. This leads back up past the Louštín hillfort, and then down the outbound trail to Krušovice, which is reached 3.9km after leaving Kluk
