*An easy circular route in the Králický Sněžník nature park, near Sky bridge 721: 14 km*

  • The Králický Sněžník mountain range lies on the border between Poland and the Czech Republic. The range also straddles the historic Bohemia-Moravia border, lying between the Orlik and Jeseníky mountains. The mountains were declared a national park in 1990 to protect the sub alpine forest and rare plants.
  • Today, the mountain range is mostly known for the fast-developing resort of Dolní Morava. The private owners have devoted substantial funds to create a dual season resort with multiple family-oriented attractions. Most notable are the controversial Sky Walk tower and the majestic Sky Bridge 721m long pedestrian suspension bridge. A separate page on this site discusses the resort and describes the short education trail which includes a traverse of the Sky Bridge.
  • Various hiking and cycle trails in the Králický Sněžník range can be accessed from both the valley floor and from the top of the Sněžník chair lift, which operates also during the summer season. The route shown on this page is a a suggestion for an easy medium length walk starting from the top of the chair lift. It can easily be combined with a visit to the Sky Bridge and/or the Sky Walk.
  • The suggested route avoids the steeper hiking trails on the mountain and makes use of the mountain roads that were built for logging purposes. Many of these are marked cycle paths, but they are usually quiet as most bikers seem to ascend the mountain primarily to tackle the specially-created steep mountain bike tracks. A highlight of the route is the ascent and traverse of the Souš peak, partly following a pretty mountain stream. Note that this footpath can get boggy after heavy rain.
  • There are several variants to this route, but if followed as shown below, it is a 14 km walk, with just under 400m of height to ascend-descend, none of which is on steep paths. The first part of the route follows the return path after finishing the Sky Bridge traverse. The path has been equipped with a very well done education trail with multilingual (Cz/De,P,En) information boards. The trail is called the “Bridge of Time” and illustrates some important themes relating to the mountain region in an engaging way.
  • There are various refreshment options at the bottom and top of the chair lift, which are open during the main season, including two self-service restaurants and a snack bar (map points 10 and 11). It is not gourmet cuisine but for mountain restaurants they do the job pretty well.
