An easy walk along the ridge from Komáří hůrka peak in the Eastern Ore mountains: 5 km

  • Komáří hůrka (808m) is a well known summit lying at the eastern end of the Krušné hory mountains in northern Bohemia. It is a popular peak due to panoramic views from the restaurant-pension that is situated at the top. Komáří hůrka is easily accessible by a number of routes, including a 2 person chairlift, which runs from Krupka, on the south side of the hill. At 2.3 km long it is the longest passenger cableway in the country. The peak is also accessible by car (there is a large parking area) as well as by bus from Krupka and Teplice. There are several hiking routes to the summit – the separate walk from Krupka for details.
  • The whole Krušné hory range of hills has a long history of mining, most notably for Tin ore. The region was awarded the status of a UNESCO world heritage site in 2019. The mining activities likely date back to the Bronze Age (Copper and Tin are the component metals of Bronze). The slopes of Komáří hůrka had some of most significant deposits and the summit used to have a bell tower for calling the miners from Krupka.
  • Once at the top of the hill – the chairlift is the nicest way to the top – there is a nice 5 km trail entirely on mountain tracks (suitable for strollers) that loops around the north and south sides of the ridge. This follows the route of one of the cross country ski trails in winter and passes the Sedmihůrská viewpoint. The route has only 60m of height to ascend-descend. Refreshments should be available at the mountain hotel at the summit (there is an outside snack bar and indoor restaurant) as well as at the scenic snack bar next to the St Wolfgang chapel, 300m down the road from the summit (located near the car park and bus stop).
