*An extended trip in the landscape surrounding Slatiňany chateau: 14 km to 17 km*
- This is extended version of an earlier post featuring short walks near the beautiful Slatiňany chateau, located some 20 km south of Pardubice. The original post detailed three walks easily manageable with a stroller. This extended version heads further into the hilly woodland areas to the south of the chateau. It adds a visit to the reconstructed Na Chlumu viewing tower (map point 7), the recently reconstructed Kochánovice wetland pond area (map point 8) and the unusual sandstone rock area of Na skalách (map point 9).
- Otherwise, the route is the basically the same as the earlier post, but the paths are less suitable for a stroller, although none are difficult. There is just over 200m of height to ascend-descend. The header photo is the view from the top of the Bára lookout tower.
- For refreshments, the pleasant café Klein is close to the chateau entrance (map point 3). At the Bára lookout there is an excellent snack bar (only open seasonally in good weather) and on the riverside path, next to the climbing rock, try the stylish modern Bar Kůlna (map point 14), with its outside terrace area. In addition, on this extended version, try the popular Monaco restaurant (map point 7) with its large garden area.
- The final section of the walk is the 3 km there and back flat section along the river to the Bar Kůlna for some end of walk refreshments. This can be skipped if needed, reducing the walk to around 14 km

Directions
- Starting at the train station, follow the YELLOW hiking trail to reach the chateau after 1.3 km
- Access to the gardens requires a ticket (but is worthwhile). The Gardens have an ‘exit only’ turnstile at the far end. If not planning on visiting the gardens, the YELLOW trail follows the outside fence to reach the garden exit
- Continue on the YELLOW trail for 2 km as far as the Monaco trail junction (opposite the restaurant)
- Turn right at the junction passing the restaurant and head uphill on the track for 200m to reach a tourist shelter at the Nad Monakem junction
- At the junction, turn left onto the GREEN trail for 900m to reach the Na Chlumu lookout tower
- Continue on the GREEN trail for a further 1.5 km to reach the Perný – rybník junction. Here, join the YELLOW trail heading in the direction of Na Hájence – host.
- Continue on the YELLOW trail, passing the wetland area on the left, to reach the Rabštejnská Lhota car park after 2.1 km
- At the car park turn right onto the BLUE trail. Pass the sandstone rock areas on the left and reach the Rozhledna Bára – rozc junction after 1.3 km
- The Bára tower is a 200m diversion to the left – a recommended detour
- Return back to the trail junction after visiting the tower and rejoin the BLUE trail heading back to the chateau. The best trail to follow is the one marked with wheelchair access
- One reaching the edge of the chateau garden again, if wanting to take the final part of the walk along the river to the climbing rock and the Kůlna bar, turn right to take the footpath through the orchard along the edge of the chateau garden to reach the river
- Cross the river using the footbridge and turn right to follow the BLUE trail for 1.5 km to reach the bar
