A walk around the Dendrological Garden and Arboretum near Průhonice: 4 km

  • Most people visit Průhonice (situated some 15km southeast of Prague) to walk around the spectacular UNESCO listed landscaped park area. Many visitors do not realize that on the opposite side of the D1 highway, just a short (900m) walk from the center of Průhonice village, is another extensive botanical garden and park area, called the Dendrological Garden. This is a more research focused park, but the plant and tree collections are no less spectacular and the walk around the park is surprisingly varied and scenic. There is even a modern interpretation of a megalithic temple in the grassy park area.
  • The Dendrological Garden is usually open from the end of March to the end of October. May is an especially good time for a visit due to the extensive collection of massive and colorful Rhododendron bushes, but there are attractions throughout the opening period. A full walk around the area is 4 km to 5 km in length. Apart from a small section in a stream valley is on flat good paths, suitable for strollers. For refreshments, there is a stylish café inside the garden.
