*A short visit to Chalupská slať, the largest peat bog pond in Bohemia, from Borová Lada: 3 km*

  • Upland peat bogs and lakes were formed at the end of the last Ice Age and are some of the most interesting nature sights in the country. They are also the home of many rare plants. Chalupská slať is the largest peat lake in Bohemia and there is a short (500m) nature trail along a wooden walkway leading to the lake. There are also signs with the names of the characteristic peat bog plants. There is also a nicely done information center close to the start of the trail.
  • Although there is a car park and bus stop at the start of the nature trail, many visitors will start from the nearest village, Borová Lada which is an attractive Šumava resort town. It also has a couple of good restaurants and an excellent café and snack bar called Madam Čokoláda. This is definitely worth a visit, before or after the easy walk to the peat bog.
  • If starting and finishing in Borová Lada, the walk is 3 km long and essentially flat. It can be managed with a stroller.
