*An easy 11km walk beside the beautiful Bílé Labe (White Elbe)*

  • The Bílé Labe (White Elbe) is the first major tributary stream running into the river Labe, as it starts its thousand kilometer journey to the North Sea. It is a picturesque stream, with several waterfalls and rapids cascading over granite rocks as it flows down the mountainside from its source on the high plateau near the mountain hotel of Luční bouda.
  • An easy trail along a quiet asphalt road (the first part of the Weberova cesta) follows the final section of the stream below the mountain restaurant and pension Bouda Bílé Labe. This is a popular walk in all seasons and is particularly attractive in winter when the stream is often partly frozen. The restaurant makes a good stop at the halfway point.
  • Although it is possible to complete a circular route back to the starting point in the center of Špindlerův Mlýn on the (yellow) hiking trail through the forest high above the stream, this route is not particularly easy with a stroller (and is not a prepared track in winter). Returning on the outbound route is probably a more scenic option in any event, as it offers another chance to enjoy the most attractive stream in the area, as well the popular route along the Labe to/from the centre of the village, past the Medvědín chair lift station.
  • A further option is to extend the walk by following the second part of the Weberova cesta which follows the course of the Bílé Labe as it climbs towards the high plateau and its source in the peat bogs below Studniční hora (1554m), the third highest Czech mountain. The trail directly passes the popular Luční bouda restaurant, which also has a microbrewery, the highest in Central Europe. The extension from Bouda Bílé Labe to Luční bouda is 4.7 km one way and climbs an additional 400m. It is not accessible with a stroller (or in winter due to the avalanche risk).
  • The standard walk from Špindlerův Mlýn village center to Bouda Bílé Labe, returning on the same route, is 11.5 km long and involves 280m of height gained/lost. There are no steep sections and the route can be easily managed with a stroller (unless the route is covered in snow).

Directions

  • Start the walk at the village square in Špindlerův Mlýn. Cross the Labe on the footbridge and join the BLUE trail in the direction of Medvědín
  • Follow the BLUE trail alongside the Labe river, past the Medvědín chair lift station, to reach the trail junction of Pod Dívčí strání after 2 km
  • At Pod Dívčí strání, turn right staying on the BLUE trail in the direction of Bouda Bílé Labe, which is reached after 3.8 km of gently rising ascent
  • At Bouda Bílé Labe, there is the option to continue on the BLUE trail as it towards Luční bouda on a path above the stream or to return back to Špindlerův Mlýn
  • The recommended route is to retrace the outbound path, but if preferring a circular route through the forest on the mountain slope above the stream, take the YELLOW trail (signposted to Špindlerův Mlýn) which climbs up a further 100m before traversing above the stream back towards the village center, which is reached after 5.1km
